A
Tribute To Frostproof High School
Written
when Frostproof High School celebrated its 50th reunion Late evening as the sun sinks low, she stands there like a silent sentinel. Her twin towers reach upward toward the skies, asking a blessing upon her weatherd walls. During the day, the halls echoes the footsteps of a thousand feet....Now, the rooms are strangely quiet. No sound except the wind as it whispers through the palms that stand in the school yard. Standing in the big, high celing auditorium, alone with the last dying embers of the evening sun filtering through the huge windows you might hear voices from the long gone past. The classed of 27, 28, 29 and on down the never ending line - 41, 42, the years of world war 11 - 55, the korean conflict- 62 thru 72, Viet Nam.......They pass slowly and silently to the strain of the beautiful "Pomp & Splendor". Many of the voices of those who pass are still heard - their sons and daughters still come-generation after generation. Others, whose voices have echoed through these rooms and halls, are stilled forever. Disease, war and accidents have claimed her classmates in a steady stream since her doors were first opened. While you stand here midst these dear memories, no matter how soft or tender your heart may be, you may be seized by panic, and you may wish to impound a warning to your loved ones who come here daily, and to the loved ones who are yet surely to come. Your eyes have caught upon her motto, still visible in the dying sun, these beautiful words glowing above her big, open stage- ENTER TO LEARN GO FORTH TO SERVE You may as you gaze upon these words offer an earnest prayer, "Do good while here, prepare yourself well". Gaze long and lovingly upon those assembled with you today, for what you have now, you will never have again...................You will never pass this way again.
